DIETs(The District Institutes of Education and Training) were established in accordance with the National Policy on Education 1986. Now DIETs have been established at revenue district level all over India.

In Kerala, 14 DIETs function, one in each district. The mission of DIET is to give academic leadership in the field of school education in the district.

Pre-service Teacher Education and Inservice Teacher Education function under the same roof in the DIET.

The vision behind this is that this arrangement will minimize the gap between what is taught in the pre-service teacher education courses and what is practised in the schools.

Activities

The main activities of DIET are the following:

DIET Wayanad is one of the three DIETs established in Kerala in the first phase in 1989. It has completed 19 years of glorious service in the field of education in the district. We have a spacious campus and the buildings are the best among the DIETs of Kerala. The institute has established itself as a centre of excellence in the district. It has always worked enthusiastically in implementing the new educational programs of the government. Programs like the minimum levels of learning and the DPEP weere implemented vigorously in the district under the leadership of the DIET. We are still in the forefront of the strive for educational excellence. We actively colaborate with the SSA in implementing all its interventions. In the past several years we have had 100% success in the T.T.C examinations.
